Determining whether books are out of print

From: Lyndsay Piper <piper.conservation<-a>

Further to Harold Holland's query and Susan Lunas's reply. The
Books in Print in the UK and USA are indeed incomplete and the OP CD
Rom is misleading. We have found that Blackwells Bookshop Oxford
has an excellent catalogue, which includes many titles not on BIP. A
recent search for some English Literature texts for a friend proved
that 8 of the 40 titles on her reading lists, were indeed
available, but not in BIP.

We have also found that Bill Cotton's Regional Chair was announced
on the OP CD Rom as out of print although the publishers constantly
denied this and said it was reprint under consideration. (It is
indeed in print again now.)

Do try <URL:http://www.blackwell.co.uk>

If you do not have access to the UK Whittakers Books in Print
<URL:http://www.bookshop.co.uk/> is the Internet Bookshop and uses
Whittakers Books in Print as its base

I will also supply four very good web sites supplying publisher
addresses, e-mail and web site in the next couple of days. At
least, one of them is USA based.

For those of you in UK our second hand booksellers are always
delighted to do searches (free of charge.) It is up to the customer
if they wish to purchase when the titles is find. Specialists such
as John Ives are probably the quickest route, but local
non-specialists will help as well.

Good luck
Lyndsay Piper
