Determining whether books are out of print

From: Harold Holland <harl<-a>

The responses to my inquiry about books out of print focused
primarily on procedures for finding a book out of print. More
specifically is there a rule of thumb for assuming that a book is
probably out print which can be used at the time of a disaster? When
a disaster occurs, priorities usually must be assigned such as
giving priority to publications out of print over ones in print. At
the moment of disaster however, time precludes doing a search to
determine the status of each publication. If however, say after
eighteen months and published by an academic press, this item is
likely out print, processing or recovery priority could be assigned
to it.
