From: Lynn Proden <15603<-a>
Date: Wednesday, September 24, 1997
The role of scientific analysis as a tool in art conservation and
authentication is the subject of a conference to be held at
Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library on Saturday, November 8, 1997.
Conservators and scientists from Winterthur, the Philadelphia Museum
of Art, the Getty Conservation Institute, and the Smithsonian
Institution will present the latest methods in the area of
conservation and scientific analysis. Techniques of authenticating
decorative art objects will be discussed at the conference as well
as in Winterthur's new exhibition, "Deceit, Deception, & Discovery."
The "discovery" portion of the exhibition focuses on the various
types of information scientists and conservators utilize in
examining decorative art objects when authenticating.
