Subject: Repairing gravestones
Ramona Duncan-Huse <rduncan<-a t->statelib< . >lib< . >in< . >us> >I've had a question posed to me by a member of the public that wishes to >know if the information on a web page about cleaning gravestones is >appropriate. > > <URL:http://www.moonrakers.com/repair.htm> We specialize in the conservation of historic gravestones and yes, I believe all the techniques and approaches in said document are grossly inappropriate. Initial testing of "Roundup" weed killer applied to limestones indicates extreme damage to the limestone. The Association for Gravestone Studies has publications available with directions for simple cleaning... I do not believe there are any successful consolidants for limestones and marbles...but there might be some developments in the near future.
