Subject: Pens with permanent ink
Scott Campbell enquired after pens with permanent ink. Based on a Scottish investigation of various commercial products, published in the Abbey Newsletter a few years back, we adopted the use of the black Pentel Document Pen (Permanent MR205), for all archival marking. After many years of experience with this product in a sub-tropical climate, it is highly recommended. In fact, a recent acquisition of two badly foxed works of art on paper were accessioned with this pen and subsequently submitted for conservation. Solubility tested negative and full bleaching treatment was successfully undertaken--and without bleeding or pigment loss of the accession number. That was impressive, (and a great relief) !
