Paper Conservator National Library of New Zealand The National Library's Conservation Services Section requires a Senior Paper Conservator to join the Conservation Section, which is responsible for the preservation and remedial treatment of the Library's heritage collections. The staff of the Section are responsible for the conservation and restoration of books, prints and drawings, manuscripts, cartographic collections, sound and music recordings, photographs. The appointee will be responsible for all aspects of the conservation of the Drawings and Prints, Manuscripts and Archives, Cartographic and Ephemera heritage collections and the training of curatorial staff in the care and handling of collections, and the identification of collection needs. They will also be responsible for the training and supervision of conservation technicians and participate in the development and management of the section. The appointee must have: * a recognised formal qualification in conservation, with specific training in the conservation of works of art on paper * a minimum of 5 years, including training, of practical experience in paper conservation, in a variety of formats and media, including printed and original art on paper, maps, manuscripts and archival material * an understanding of cultural values and sensitivities . an ability to organise time and resources effectively and to work independently * effective written and oral communication . an ability to work professionally as part of the Conservation Services team * an ability to provide effective training and supervision in the laboratory As the opportunity to appoint a second Paper Conservator may follow, applicants are asked to indicate their willingness to be considered for the second position; the same qualifications and a minimum of three years experience will be required. Co-Ordinator, Conservation and Copying Services The National Library's Conservation and Copying Services require a Co-ordinator for the teams of specialist conservation staff (responsible for the preservation and remedial treatment of the Library's collections), and the copying services' group who provide imaging, microfilming and photocopying, as well as conventional photography, for preservation purposes and for the public orders. The appointee will co-ordinate the administration, business and budget planning for the Conservation, Microfilming and Image Services staff. Using a team approach she/he will enable the sections to operate effectively and efficiently. She/he will be the section's representative and an advocate for preservation and copying issues within the National Library.
