Notch codes

I am currently surveying a collection on 8 x 10 inch negatives that
may include cellulose  acetate and nitrate material. I am interested
in obtaining more information regarding various "notch codes" and
their usefulness for identifying this material. Any suggestions
regarding  articles, databases, previous surveys, or listings of
notch codes, that contain corresponding manufacturers, dates and film
base material would be greatly appreciated.
