Subject: Environmental control
We are a provincial fine art museum and we will hopefully be moving to a new purpose built facility around the year 2005. At present there are meetings progressing on the terms of reference and requirements for the new building. Of course one of the questions from the designers and managers is to the value of a stable environment in storage areas and what the variations in temperature and humidity could be. As one of the most expensive components of a stable environment is air conditioning they are asking if the variations as set down by internationally accepted standards could be extended in storage areas. As most of the collection will be housed in storage I feel it is vital that these areas are safeguarded from fluctuation and as the conservator I have been asked to comment. Therefore I am enquiring as to whether anyone as any experience and/or knowledge to share on this subject to assist us in arriving at an informed decision. Many thanks, Lynn Campbell Conservator Robert McDougall Art Gallery *** Conservation DistList Instance 11:23 Distributed: Tuesday, September 9, 1997 Message Id: cdl-11-23-012 ***Received on Monday, 8 September, 1997
