Conservation Scientist Freer and Sackler Galleries Smithsonian Institution The Department of Conservation and Scientific Research, Freer Gallery of Art/Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Smithsonian Institution, has an opening for a Conservation Scientist grade GS-11. Duties include performing day to day scientific work in the Department, identifying and analysing the materials of works of art, and providing technical support for conservation and related efforts. Participation in research projects is strongly encouraged. Applicants should have a professional understanding of a relevant branch of the physical sciences that would typically be obtained via an M.S. degree plus 5 years of research-related experience. Previous exposure to work in this field will be an advantage. This is a U.S. federal civil service position;. salary range $38,330--49,831 p.a.
