Support for honors sought

From: Jean D. Portell <jeandp<-a>
Date: Friday, August 29, 1997
Laura Stirton Aust (a paper conservator) and Jean D. Portell (an
objects conservator) wish to nominate Elaine Haas, founder and
former owner of TALAS, for special recognition from the American
Institute for Conservation. We would like to hear from people who
might want to provide notes of appreciation, or add their names to a
general letter of support to be sent to AIC.

Elaine Haas began providing preservation supplies in 1966, when she
made in her kitchen leather dressing and leather protector to
Carolyn Horton's specification. From this beginning and until 1994
when she sold TALAS to its present owner and retired, she expanded
her business to provide supplies (and related information) to
practicing conservators throughout North America and abroad.

We believe that TALAS was the first company that sought out,
catalogued, and sold to our profession a variety of necessary tools
and supplies.
