Subject: Wall finishes for photo galleries
In the next year the V&A will open new photo galleries showing works from the permanent collection on a three monthly rotation. The turn around period between the rotations will be quite short, and the walls will be repainted with an acrylic based emulsion paint. Normally three or four weeks elapse before any works are hung on the walls, to allow for any off gassing of material from paints and finishes. Once the new gallery rotation is in place then this time span will be greatly reduced. Does anyone know of any likely problems with photographic materials interacting with acrylic based emulsion paints? All of the photos will be housed in frames, and matted with Conservation quality board. It is proposed to use Filmoplast to seal the glass mount and backing board together. If anyone has any information, or knows about any articles dealing with the subject, then I would be very grateful for references etc. Mike Wheeler Paper Conservation Department Victoria and Albert Museum *** Conservation DistList Instance 11:18 Distributed: Friday, August 22, 1997 Message Id: cdl-11-18-013 ***Received on Thursday, 21 August, 1997
