Book Repair Technician

This position has primary responsibility for book restoration and
repair of the general circulating collections of the Libraries.
Duties include:  repair and restore book bindings of all types;
treat paper by cleaning, mending with tissue, and heat set repairs;
make protective storage cases, pamphlet binders and boxes; keep
records of work performed on BENCHMARK Conservation Management
System; inventory mending supplies.  Estimate material and equipment
needs for the year.  Qualifications: a combination of significant
training beyond high school in book preservation methods and
relevant experience preferably in an academic library setting
totaling at least one year. Knowledge of paper and book structure as
well as ability to select appropriate treatment options.  Manual
dexterity and patience in detail work, ability to use and maintain
bookbinding tools.  Starting salary for this full-time, 12-month
position is in the high teens with excellent employee benefits.
