Presentation on pressure-sensitive tape

From: Hilary Kaplan <hkaplan<-a>

"Pressure Sensitive Tape: Identification, Deterioration, and
Implications for Collections Care," is the subject of an American
Institute for Conservation sponsored session at this year's annual
meeting of the Society of American Archivists. Scheduled for
Saturday, 30 August, from 1:30-3:30pm at the Chicago Fairmont Hotel,
this session is an excellent opportunity for those planning to
attend the SAA Conference as well as allied professionals in the
Chicago area to benefit from the broad knowledge that presenters
Elissa O'Loughlin (National Archives) and Linda Stiber (Library of
Congress) will generously share.

The session will include a slide presentation with background
information and a discussion of physical characteristics and aging
properties of tapes. Participants will be given a framework for
identifying various pressure-sensitive tapes and assessing the
threat posed to collections by these materials.

Elissa and Linda have given numerous presentations on the subject of
pressure-sensitive tape, including week-long seminars at the
Campbell Center. Their talks are always entertaining and
delightfully enhanced by the most extensive collection of tape
related samples most of us have ever seen.

For more information about the SAA annual meeting, please contact
the SAA office at 312-922-0140.
