Subject: Survey on parchment and vellum
My Scottish Conservation Bureau Internship in Archives Conservation internship will focus upon the care and conservation of parchment and vellum and will run for the duration of one year, June 97-98. I plan to examine the various formats of parchment/vellum found within the archival context such as single sheets, gatherings, bindings. In addition to the physical care and treatment of parchment/vellum I plan to survey practising conservators in this area. By doing so I hope to compile a broad profile of this subject including: Bibliography of useful texts Current and previous treatment practice Exhibition and loan policy Storage practice Common problems observed in parchment/vellum collections Study/training locations and research projects. The survey findings and the bibliography will be available through the Conservation DistList. Hard copies will be produced for those who do not have access to the Conservation DistList. If you would like to receive a copy of the survey and its findings or have information which you feel would be relevant to this study please contact: Nikki Ralston Scottish Conservation Bureau Intern Scottish Records Office Thomas Thomson House 99, Bankhead Crossway North Edinburgh EH11 4DX +44 131 535 1378 Fax: +44 131-535-1390 *** Conservation DistList Instance 11:9 Distributed: Tuesday, July 15, 1997 Message Id: cdl-11-9-006 ***Received on Thursday, 10 July, 1997
