SOLINET is pleased to introduce our summer 1997 workshop schedule.

Intermediate Book Repair

Intermediate Book Repair builds on the skills learned in
Fundamentals Of Book Repair.  This one-day session is designed to
hone repair skills and expose participants to more advanced
techniques.  Primarily through hands-on practice, with some
demonstration and lecture, participants will learn how to:  recase a
textblock in its original cover; construct a new cover; replace
endsheets (alternative methods); and attach loose signatures.

This workshop is designed for staff members who perform and/or
supervise book repair in libraries.  Previous attendance at
Fundamentals Of Book Repair workshop is a prerequisite for
registration.  The workshop runs from 8:30 am to 5 pm
Tuesday-Wednesday, September 9-10 and will be taught by SOLINET
Preservation Field Services Officers.

Cost for the workshop is $145 SOLINET members ($135 early
registration, $175 late registration), $205 Non-SOLINET & FEDLINK
($195 early registration, $230 late registration)

Library Binding for Preservation

Library Binding For Preservation will be taught on Thursday,
September 25th, at The Library of Virginia in Richmond.  This
intensive full-day workshop will discuss book structure and modern
book manufacturing methods, provide an overview of bindery
operations, and offer a practicum in which participants will make
binding decisions. The session runs from 9 am to 4 pm; cost is $85
SOLINET members ($75 early registration, $110 late registration),
$125 Non-SOLINET & FEDLINK ($115 early registration, $150 late
registration).

Preservation Management

This workshop will outline the manager's role in organizing and
planning preservation activities in a library or archive.  It
includes lecture and discussion covering preservation planning,
preservation reformatting, the nature of library materials, effects
of storage conditions and handling,  strategies for integrating
preservation into library operations, and organization of staffing
and workflow.  The workshop is taught by SOLINET Preservation Field
Services staff.  It runs from 9 am to 4pm, Wednesday, August 20 at
the Central Florida Library Cooperative, Maitland, Florida.  Cost is
$85 SOLINET members ($75 early registration, $110 late
registration), $125 Non-SOLINET & FEDLINK ($115 early registration,
$150 late registration).
