The New York Conservation Association will host a two day workshop
on the topic of "Picture Varnishes". The workshop will focus on an
overview of current varnish research, and demonstrations and
presentations about the use of new low molecular weight resins.  The
demonstrations will include both traditional and innovative
application techniques, which are used to achieve a variety of
surfaces.  The resins to be discussed and demonstrated include
Mastic, Dammar, Acryloid B-72, Regalrez 1094 and MS2A.

Presenters are Rene de la Rie, Head of Scientific Research, National
Gallery of Art; Jill Whitten, Painting Conservator and Resin
Research Coordinator, National Gallery of Art, and Robert Proctor,
Painting Conservator in private practice, Washington D.C.  Lectures
will be presented on Friday.  The demonstrations will begin on
Friday afternoon, and the workshop will continue through Saturday.
In the workshop, participants will have an opportunity to experiment
with the different resins on painted mockups, which participants
will take home with them.  Participants are invited to join in the
discussion and demonstrations of technique.  Please bring your
favorite varnish brush.

Participants will be notified of exact room, times and locations.

Friday morning and afternoon: Rene de la Rie will lecture on
research of low molecular weight varnishes. Jill Whitten will
lecture on varnish properties. Rob Proctor will lecture on case
studies of applications of low molecular weight resins.  Comparisons
to other varnishes will be made

Friday afternoon: Demonstrations

Saturday: Workshop with Jill Whitten and Robert Proctor

There will be a 1 hour lunch break each day.

The cost of the two day workshop is $350.00.  Attendance is limited
