Librarian for Preservation Services (University of South Carolina) The Librarian for Preservation Services is responsible for performing and super vising sophisticated conservation treatment on primarily paper-based library materials in accordance with current professional conservation ethics and treatment procedures. Specific responsibilities include surveying collections and assessing conservation needs, establishing priorities and schedules for conservation, environmental monitoring, preparation of grant proposals, and assisting with disaster planning and recovery. An immediate responsibility will be to assist in planning and equipping a state-of-the-art conservation laboratory. The position will have supervisory responsibility for the conservation laboratory and its personnel and will report to the University Librarian for Processing Services. Requirements: ALA accredited M.L.S.; a minimum of two years relevant conservation bench experience in an academic or research institution; extensive knowledge of preservation issues, practices, and treatments, and of the history of the book; organizational ability; proficiency in oral and written communication; and ability to work effectively with all levels of library staff.
