Subject: Effective presentations
In March I posted a request for suggestions on giving good presentations. A healthy number of suggestions came in, from the DistList and other sources, and the article is now in print in the May issue of the Newsletter. It has gotten praise as being both useful and amusing. Many thanks to those who submitted ideas. You should be pleased to know that the Association for the Conservation of the Cultural Patrimony of the Americas (APOYO) has requested permission to translate the article into Spanish and reprint it in their newsletter, which goes to 3000 members in the Americas, Spain, and other European countries. Free copies of the May Newsletter were available at the AIC meeting in San Diego where 600 were distributed. For those who don't know, WAAC has a web site, <URL:http://palimpsest.stanford.edu/waac/>, where back issues are available on line. Some time in October or November the May issue will be available to all. Besides "108 Tips for Effective Presentations" this issue contains an updated version of Betty Walsh's very informative and useful 1988 article "Salvage Operations for Water Damaged Archival Collections" which includes the foldout insert summary chart (beautifully laid out by a graphic artist) "Salvage at a Glance". The content of the chart will also be available online with the article. However the 17 x 22 inch version that you receive with the Newsletter is printed on Kimdura, a synthetic paper which is designated to be waterproof and stain, oil, grease, UV, and tear resistant. You will not have to salvage the salvage chart. This you can only get by ordering a copy of the May Newsletter, $10 or $8/copy for orders over 10, or by joining WAAC, $25 a year (three issues of the Newsletter/year). Ordering and membership information can be found at the web site or contact Chris Stavroudis at cstavrou<-a t->ix< . >netcom< . >com. And again many thanks for all the contributions. One interesting observation: the library and archival crowd responded with lightning speed. Either you guys are really on top of things or you've sat through some *very* bad talks.
