Subject: Parylene
What is the conventional wisdom about using Parylene as a plasticizing treatment for archival materials? Our institution has a collection of player pianos rolls, and there has been talk of laminating them with Parylene. There is a good deal of skepticism here about this idea. Has Parylene been tested? What experience have others had with it? **** Moderator's comments: If you search through Art and Architecture Technical Abstracts (AATA), (searchable by subscription, see <URL:http://www.chin.gc.ca>), you'll find a few dozen citations concerning Parylene). You'll also find a bit by searching in CoOL Kit Miller Graduate Assistant Preservation Department McKeldin Library University of Maryland *** Conservation DistList Instance 11:2 Distributed: Friday, June 20, 1997 Message Id: cdl-11-2-010 ***Received on Wednesday, 18 June, 1997
