RESTORATION/Boston World Trade Center March 12-14, 1998 Call For Presentations Conference Theme -"Bridging Traditions" The organizers of RESTORATION invite qualified professionals to submit proposals for technical presentations relating to the theories, techniques, and technologies specific to the current-day practice of restoration, renovation, and maintenance of older, historic and traditionally-built structures as well as to the re-creation of period design. Especially sought are presentations emphasizing international, regional and maritime issues, new techniques, and practical knowledge. In accordance with this year's conference theme, "Bridging Traditions," presentation topics should highlight connections between the centuries or between cultures. RESTORATION is the largest commercial trade exhibition and conference for professionals active in the preservation, maintenance and re-creation of traditional buildings, period design and craft. Since 1993, successful events have been held in Boston, San Francisco, Baltimore, Chicago and Atlanta. Responding to strong market demand, RESTORATION will return to Boston and its roots with an event at the World Trade Center located on Boston's historic waterfront. The RESTORATION audience includes professionals, tradespeople and artisans from the fields of architecture, interior design, construction, engineering, landscape design, conservation, facilities and museum management, as well as knowledgeable owners of historic properties. On average 80 people attend each conference session. Overall attendance typically runs between six and ten thousand visitors per event. Continuing education unit (CEU) credits are provided by the American Institute of Architects, American Society of Interior Designers and the International Interior Design Association. In addition to the support of numerous national, regional and local organizations, over 325,000 brochures will be direct-mailed to attendees prospects. Sessions are 1-1/2 hour in duration and typically feature two speakers. Most presentations will be grouped according to the themes listed below. However presentations can cover any topic related to theories, techniques, and technologies and a balance of topics is sought. The thematic grouping are: * Facilities Management (profitability, cost effective technology, systems and maintenance) * Engineering (practices, structural, materials, innovations, value) * Design (exterior, interior, lighting, accessibility, furnishings, urban, landscape, garden) * Health, Safety and Welfare (as defined by the AIA/Continuing Education System) * Resource Types (public, institutional, commercial, religious, residential, landscapes, gardens) * Contractors' Corner (including tools, craftsmanship, techniques, and worksite issues) * Materials and Media (evaluation, use, repair, substitutes) Proposals should include speaker's name, affiliation, contact information, and resume with professional qualifications, as well as a detailed description of the presentation's content and format.
