Heated microspatula

Any thoughts on a source or design for a low-cost (under $100)
heated microspatula for consolidation?  Two are needed for an intern
summer work project at a small historical association.  I have a set
of extra Willard tips and may have access to a couple of rheostats.
Two ideas come to mind: 1) modifying a larger tacking iron to give a
smaller footprint, or 2) regulating the temperature of a soldering
iron/wood burning tool.
