Summer Workshops at the Conservation Center The Conservation Center, Institute of Fine Arts, New York University is pleased to announce their summer program for conservators, artists, collectors, art history, library archive and museum professionals. Housekeeping as Preventive Care in Historic House Museums Jane Merritt and Julie Reilly August 6-8, 1997, 9:30-5 Cost: $350 Registration Deadline: July 1 This course combines lectures, videos, and hands-on training to familiarize participants with collections care techniques, tools and equipment. Lectures will introduce participants to preventive care measures such as site management, pest control, lighting and display conditions, and storage. Lab sessions will demonstrate cleaning procedures. Conservation Matting, Framing and Storage Hugh Phibbs July 21-23, 9:30-5 Cost: $350 Registration Deadline: June 13 This workshop combines lectures and demonstrations with hands-on experience in conservation housing for exhibition, storage, and art-in-transit. Each participant will receive sample materials and produce reference models for future use. The Chemical Microscopy of Art and Artifacts Walter C. McCrone August 25-29 Cost: $900 Application Deadline: July 25 This course teaches the chemical microscopy applied to the identification of the materials of art and archaeology in one week of intensive instruction. A certificate is awarded by the McCrone Research Institute upon completion. Please call the Conservation Center for further details. Enrollment is limited--early application is recommended to insure a place. A deposit of $100 is required to reserve a place, payment of balance is due on first day of class.
