UK Photographic Materials Conservation Group conference

The Photographic Materials Conservation Group will be holding its
annual day of lectures on 12 June 1997 at the Windeyer Building,
University College London, 49 Cleveland Street, London W1, starting
from 9:30 a.m.  There will be a variety of lectures on a range of
topics aimed at providing useful information for conservators and
other professionals involved in caring for photographic collections.

The speakers will be (in alphabetical order):

    Karl Benz of Close Ups talking about the use of optical technology in
    photo. conservation and demonstrating equipment

    Francis Dimond, Curator of Photographic Collections at the Royal
    Archives at Windsor, on "Presenting an Image"

    Dr Peter Douglas from University of Swansea explaining the
    photo-chemistry of image dyes

    Ian Gray of D-Lab Germany describing the problems of preserving
    photographic images formed on the inside of bottles and showing some
    examples of these fascinating items

    Mhairi Handley of Digital Archives Unlimited following up her earlier
    important paper on the instability of optical disk technology with
    further up-to-the-minute information on this modern dilemma

    Dr Paula Mills of the Victoria and Albert Museum discussing photograph
    storage

    Angela Moor of the Centre for Photographic Conservation explaining why
    albums are good way of storing photographs

    Pam Roberts, Curator at The Royal Photographic Society, describing the
    Society's exhibitions policy

    Angela Thompson of The National Gallery and Ian Moor of the Centre
    for Photographic Conservation will present an overview of suppressed
    storage options, including the results of their investigations into
    commercially available frost-free refrigerators

    Chris Woods of Dorset Record Office will describe the new Conservation
    Scottish and National Vocational Qualifications, what they are and how
    they work and also report on the latest activities to develop
    accreditation systems for the conservation sector

The conference is open to members and non-members alike.  The fee
for members will be 24 Pounds and there are travel and attendance
