Subject: North Carolina Preservation Consortium
The North Carolina Preservation Consortium (NCPC) is an independent, not-for-profit organization whose role is to coordinate preservation activities for libraries, archives, and related organizations in the state. The organization was created as a result of a 1990 NEH grant for statewide preservation planning and has been offering workshops, publications and other services since 1991. NCPC has recently begun a strategic planning project funded by an LSCA Title III grant from the North Carolina State Library. The purpose of the project is to assist the NCPC board of directors and other key stakeholders as they examine ways to secure the organization's future. A special Web site has been created to support the goals of the project. It is located at: <URL:http://www.cobleskill.edu/service/ncpc/> **** Moderator's comments: There is a link to this resource from the Organizations page in CoOL In addition to background information on NCPC and the strategic planning project, the site also includes a WebBoard Conference that will allow anyone interested in NCPC's future, or in statewide preservation projects in general, to join the discussion. "Web conferencing" allows anyone with an Internet connection and a Web browser to participate in online discussions by reading messages posted by other members of the conference and responding with their own messages. Instructions for using the conference are included on the NCPC Strategic Planning Project home page. NCPC member or not, we would like to hear from you. Do you have any ideas about NCPC's future directions and activities? Its programs and services? Are you concerned with the preservation of documentary heritage? Do you have any ideas how statewide preservation programs can operate more effectively? If so, then feel free to join the discussion.
