"Noxon" is a trade name of an abrasive polisher that contains
ammonia. It is distributed by Reckitt & Colman Inc. of Wayne NJ. and
made in Canada.

Warning: do not use this polish on *brass* objects that have been
work hardened or are highly stressed internally as it could cause
stress corrosion cracking (SCC). If you do not know or cannot
determine the level of stresses in the material, you must avoid any
ammoniated solutions.

We have all seen brass lanterns or door knobs or other paper thin
brass materials that have a multitude of cracks in them. Some of
these cracks are formed from the internal stresses within the metal
during forming (spinning); other cracks may have developed as a
result of polishing up the brass! Thick pieces of brass are also
susceptible to SCC.
