Responsibilities: Carry out comprehensive preservation program for
library collections.  Prepare, implement, and document conservation
treatment of books, manuscripts, and pictorial materials.  Implement
general preservation programs including monitoring of environmental
conditions where library collections are stored or used, advising
staff in preservation matters, administering a disaster preparedness
plan, and monitor the work of the commercial bindery.  Process newly
acquired materials for use by patrons and prepare materials for
exhibit.

Requirements:  Demonstrated ability to develop and carry out
restoration and conservation treatment of library materials.
Graduate degree from recognized conservation training program plus
minimum 2 years related experience or equivalent extensive
experience in conservation of library materials.  Comprehensive
knowledge of historic restoration techniques including historical
book structures and bindings.  Mechanical aptitude for working in
all areas of restoration, ability to lift boxes of books,
supervisory skills, and excellent interpersonal skills required.
Familiarity with preservation issues and collections management in
research libraries highly desired.
