Repair, rebind and restore select items from the general and Special
Collections following current conservation quality standards and
employing a high degree of craftsmanship; inspect incoming damaged
library materials and make decisions concerning appropriate in-house
treatment or other preservation options; assist in condition
surveys, environmental monitoring, reformatting, mass
deacidification, and other projects; assist with training and
supervision of student help; enter data into the computer; other
related duties.

Requirements: High school education and at least one year formal
training/ apprenticeship in bookbinding and book repair and the
conservation of library materials OR a minimum of 1 year experience
with hands-on benchwork under the supervision of a trained
conservator. Prefer some educational experience at the college
level; certification of successful completion of advanced training
in book and paper conservation from a recognized institute, center,
or school for conservation studies; one or more years of practical
experience in book and paper conservation may be substituted for
certification. Must be able to present a portfolio of examples of
past work in hand binding. Prefer basic computer skills (Macintosh
or Windows) using word processing, spreadsheet; familiarity with
digital imaging technology and its application in library book
preservation.

Salary (Grade 6)- $17,535 minimum for 37.5 hour week, benefits.
