Collage

In response to Linda Williamson's query about making a collage with
old fabrics: Soaking the fabrics in any medium will change their
appearance. Unless you want them to look like part of the paintings,
this will not produce the desired results. The best way to attach
without changing their appearance is to use a heat-seal adhesive.
Probably the easiest one for a non-conservator to use is Beva in a
thin film. The film is placed between the fabric and the painting
and ironed on with a tacking iron. This should attach it very flat.
If you want a more draped appearance, you will have to fiddle with
the technique.
