Gaylord Bros. is pleased to announce the winner of its fourth
Collections Conservation Award. Clara Keyes of Morehead State
University, Kentucky, will receive a $1000 grant for conservation
training and an all expense paid trip to the 1997 conference of the
American Institute for Conservation in San Diego, California.

Ms. Keyes will apply her grant toward an innovative study of
collections conservation techniques and practices in libraries,
which includes an internship at the University of Utah and visits to
conservation facilities at the University of Connecticut, Harvard
University, and Book Lab, as well as several library binderies. Her
goal is to upgrade book repair operations in Camden-Carroll Library,
Morehead State University, an to share her knowledge with colleagues
in small-to-medium sized libraries in Kentucky where there are few
training opportunities.

The award was established by Gaylord Brothers, one of the leading
sources of archival storage materials and conservation supplies.
Its goal is to support the professional development of individuals
involved in the conservation treatment of library and archival
collections (book, paper or photographic materials). Applications
are judged by Gaylord' Preservation Advisory Committee, an
independent group of conservators, preservation administrators and
preservation educators. Criteria include the quality of the
proposal, the qualifications of the applicant and the potential
impact of the proposal on the collections in the applicant's care.

The Gaylord Collections Conservation Award is given annually, and
applications are currently being accepted for 1998. Next year's
award will include a $1000 grant and an all expense paid trip to the
annual conference of the American Institute for Conservation in
Washington, D.C. For more information and an application form,
call Gaylord Customer Service at 1-800-448-6160 or the Gaylord
Preservation Help Line at 1-800-428-3631. The deadline for
submission is December 1, 1997.
