Conservation Workshop and Lecture at Huntington Library 1151 Oxford Road San Marino, CA 91108 April 3-5, 1997 Cathy Baker will conduct a three-day conservation workshop at the Huntington Library on the topic of stain reduction. The course, entitled "Solvents, Techniques and Implications" will involve identifying stains in paper artifacts and establishing treatment protocols, as well as discussing implications of treatments on paper and other media. The course will also review basic chemical reactions involved in treatments. Case studies will also be evaluated, and a variety of treatments will be executed by workshop participants. The course, funded in part by the Kress Foundation, will be limited to six conservators. Course fee: $ 225. Cathy Baker has been a professional paper conservator since 1973. She taught in SUNY's Art Conservation Department from 1978 to 1993. >From 1987 to 1995, she was the instructor in western paper conservation techniques for the ICCROM mini-courses held in Italy and Austria. She has recently completed her first book, By His Own Labor - The Biography of Dard Hunter. The book will be published in a limited edition in Tuscaloosa, Alabama later this year. On the evening of April 4th, at 7:30 P.M. in Friends' Hall at the Huntington, Ms. Baker will present an illustrated public lecture, "Dard Hunter - Maker of Books By Hand" on the noted paper historian, designer and printer.
