Topics will include the importance of preserving the heritage of a diverse community through photographs; using photographs for community exhibitions, education, and outreach; deterioration of photographs; and storage concerns in planning for photographic preservation. The workshop is intended to strengthen the management abilities of smaller institutions in the areas of collections care, to raise consciousness about the significance of collecting the heritage of multi-cultural communities, and to teach participants simple methods for organizing and prolonging the life of photographs. It will provide a large amount of basic, concise information in a one-day presentation with ample time for questions, problem solving, and hands-on examination of photographs. Who should attend? Institution administrators, curators, conservators, community leaders, and others with responsibility for the preservation, exhibition, and interpretation of photographic images are encouraged to participate. Faculty: An interdisciplinary faculty will bring together the points of view of conservator, educator, and community leader. The workshop will be conducted by Gary Albright, Senior Conservator, Northeast Document Conservation Center.
