More details and registration form are available on the News page in Conservation OnLine: http://palimpsest.stanford.edu/news Assessing and Managing Risks to Your Collections Interactive Training Workshop CMA Annual Conference June 9-10, 1997 Canadian Museum of Nature, Ottawa The Workshop: This 2-day non-technical workshop has been designed for directors, managers, administrators, curators, collection managers, researchers, conservators, preparators, volunteers, indeed any stakeholder in collection preservation. It will highlight a methodology developed by the Canadian Museum of Nature which gives a global framework for establishing priorities in the area of preventive conservation. The methodology is based on risk assessment processes and risk management principles applied in business and industry. During the workshop, participants will learn how to: * identify all agents of deterioration, * identify risk types, * estimate magnitudes of risks, * rank their relative importance, * mitigate risks, and * evaluate the relative costs, benefits and collateral risks of implementing the proposed mitigation measures. The workshop will be presented by Robert Waller (Chief, Conservation) and Sylvie Marcil (Senior Conservator) of the Canadian Museum of Nature, at its Victoria Memorial Museum Building location, McLeod at Metcalfe St., Ottawa.
