Subject: Dust jackets
I have been asked what is the best way to protect paper dust jackets on a collection of 20th century books. The owner wishes to keep the dust jackets visible on his shelves, so keeping them separately or boxing the books would not be satisfactory. It may be possible to limit the light levels in the room, and RH and temperature, within limits. He is interested in melinex sleeves; is there a better, more flexible, but still archival transparent wrapper? Would polyethylene/polythene be satisfactory? Can either substance be obtained with a light-filtering element? *** Conservation DistList Instance 10:73 Distributed: Tuesday, February 18, 1997 Message Id: cdl-10-73-014 ***Received on Friday, 14 February, 1997
