Subject: Call for Papers: Impact of Location on Conservation Treatments
SSCR Conference 1998 Site Effects: The Impact of Location on Conservation Treatments To be held at the Burrell Collection, Glasgow, Scotland, UK 5-6 May 1998 Papers are now invited for the 1998 SSCR Conference "Site Effects: The Impact of Location on Conservation Treatments." Where objects are site specific ( eg standing stones, buildings, building features or fittings ) the treatment of these objects often has to be adapted to allow for the effects of the location. In many cases, conservators have to work with other professionals eg curators, architects, historians, archaeologists, engineers, planners or designers, to achieve a satisfactory result. The conference aims to explore both the ways treatments are adapted and relationships with other professions and, from this, to increase the understanding of the professional requirements of the different people involved. Papers can examine these questions in a general and abstract way, or can relate them to past, present and future conservation projects. Topics may include: * archaelogical and historic sites, eg landscapes and gardens; * buildings, both outer and inner structures; * fixed features eg wallpaper, stained glass, outdoor sculpture, architectural features; * moveable objects which have to be in a specific place. Papers will be published in SSCR pre-prints. Abstracts ( 300-400 words) should be submitted by 1 April 1997 to Wendi Davidson SSCR Glasite Meeting House 33 Barony Street, Edinburgh EH3 6NX, United Kingdom +44 131 556 8147 Fax: +44 131 557 5977 admin<-a t->sscr< . >demon< . >co< . >uk Margot M Wright Marischal Museum, Marischal College University of Aberdeen, Broad Street Aberdeen AB10 1YS +44 1224 273059 (Conservation Laboratory) +44 1224 273131 (Museum & Answerphone) Fax: +44 1224 645519 *** Conservation DistList Instance 10:69 Distributed: Monday, February 3, 1997 Message Id: cdl-10-69-013 ***Received on Thursday, 30 January, 1997
