Call for Textile Conservators

The University of Alberta Clothing and Textiles Collection in
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada had a flood just before Christmas '96. Our
collection is utilized by researchers, the community and students
studying museology and the conservation of textiles. Those objects
that were affected by the flood are garments from the 19th and 20th
centuries and flat textiles of diverse historical or cultural
significance. The water moved through the floors so picked up
contaminants along the way before leaking onto the collection.
Typical damage that we have seen are tide lines, yellow stains, dye
transfer and alteration in texture.

We are interested in hiring conservators with experience in dealing
with water damaged textiles to assist our textile conservator in the
salvage operation. We are looking for people for 3 - 6 months but
may consider shorter terms. Please fax/send your resume and
names/phone numbers of two references to.....
