Aris Silver Protective Coating

Does anyone have any information on a product used to "protect" silver
objects, called Aris Silver Protective Coating.  A member of the
public brought this "treatment" to my attention.  However it may
appear on initial application, it now appears as a dull grey
pewter/lead-like finish over the silver.  It is extremely difficult to
remove. Unfortunately, buffing seems the only method of reversing the
situation.  Information on the product and its removal would be
helpful.
