Subject: Pacific Silver Cloth
Re: the report (Cons DistList Inst. 10:56) on the Walters Art Gallery "successful" use of Pacific cloth. Like any normal conservators, the staff have obviously supplied belts and suspenders to prevent tarnishing of their very valuable silver. IF indeed these cases are kept at a low RH with silica gel, the lack of tarnish may have no correlation with the Pacific cloth at all. This is prudent conservation practice, but doesn't qualify as a fair test!
