The American Antiquarian Society, an independent research library has an
immediate opening for a part-time paper conservation assistant to
provide treatments for the Society's collection of broadsides printed in
the United States in the 1830s and 1840s. The project is funded by the
National Endowment for the Humanities funding is secured through October
1994.

Responsibilities include performing conservation treatments and
documentation.Treatments range from basic washing, deacidification
resizing, and mending to more advanced procedures, such as stain and
tape removal, pulp fills and light bleaching.

Three years of training and work experience in book and/or paper-
conservation required; excellent manual skills. Salary depends upon
experience and qualifications.
