Subject: Update on South Florida
SEFLIN (Southeast Florida Library Network) has stepped out of the shadows of downed communications and is reporting on library needs in South Florida. St. Thomas University Library just regained power today. University of Miami Library sustained damage to its roof and ocean view windows. Libraries to the north of Miami have apparently regained electricity and sustained little damage. Miami/Dade Public Library's large Kendal (i.e., Coral Gables) branch is being occupied by the military ... no word on the books! The UF Institute of Food and Agricultural Science Library at Homestead appears not to be a concern at present ... the Institute is trying to establish habitable quarters for staff; recovery will follow. A few commercial recovery vendors have reported difficulty getting into South Florida; apparently security is tight. SEFLIN is reporting to the Florida State Library; we expect requests for assistance and damage reports to follow. *** Conservation DistList Instance 6:18 Distributed: Tuesday, September 1, 1992 Message Id: cdl-6-18-002 ***Received on Monday, 31 August, 1992
