Stainless steel wire

Our search for stainless steel wire a few years ago turned up nothing.
Library Binding Service and Gane Bros. both said they were not able to
find any. Both also said they had only ever heard of stainless steel
staples, but not wire--which is what I have heard echoed many times by
many people since then. As a result, we gave up looking--and started
hand-sewing more STF's. We do, however, still use our wire stitcher for
side stitching, and we also send pamphlets to our binder who sews STF's
and wire-stitches through the side (for flatbacks).

If anyone has found stainless steel wire, I would still like to know
about it. I've always wondered (and someone might want to pursue this)
were the wire comes from that is used to make the stainless steel
staples?
