NISO/ASTM standards for adhesives for labels

From: Jennifer Banks <jsbanks>
Date: Friday, June 19, 1992
NISO and ASTM (American Society of Testing and Materials) will hold a
planning meeting to establish a standards development committee on
adhesives used in labels that are affixed to library materials. The
meeting will be held on July 13, 1992 at the ASTM Headquarters in
Philadelphia from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Representatives from the
library community and members of the vendor community that produce
and/or sell adhesive products are needed to participate in this work.

This joint committee will develop a standard specifying acceptable
adhesives to be used on a variety of labels affixed to library
materials. The purpose of the standard will be to specify adhesives
that will insure that the labels remain bonded to various materials --
papers, cloths, and plastics -- without 1) damaging the label, its
legibility, or the library material; or 2) migrating out from under the
label and damaging adjacent materials.

If you are interested in attending the planning meeting, contact NISO by
phone (301-975-2814) or Fax (301-869-8071). If you would like to
discuss this project or ask questions about it, contact Jennifer Banks,
MIT Libraries, by phone (617-253-5664), or e-mail.
