POSITION: Head, Preservation/Conservation Department.

DESCRIPTION: Responsible for managing the preservation and storage
programs for the six libraries at Brown University, including oversight
of the Conservation Laboratory and Bindery; developing short and
long-range preservation and storage plans and policies; supervising the
Bindery Manager and Conservator of Library Materials; writing grant
proposals for preservation of general collections and other special
preservation projects and serving as manager for funded projects;
actively participating in statewide preservation planning; conducting
preservation education programs for staff, student assistants and the
university community; implementing library storage recommendations;
monitoring and revising the Library's disaster plans and emergency
control operations. Reports to the Associate University Librarian for
Technical Services.

QUALIFICATIONS: MLS degree from an ALA accredited library school; two to
four years professional experience in an academic library; formal
training in preservation administration; knowledge of current
preservation and conservation techniques; demonstrated ability to plan
projects, write reports and communicate effectively with staff at all
levels, as well as colleagues in the national preservation scene.
Supervisory experience desired.

SALARY: $35,200 minimum.

BENEFITS: Annual paid leave of 22 vacation days, 11 holidays, sick leave
accrual up to 60 days. Choice of TIAA-CREF retirement plan or other
tax-deferred annuity options. Choice of three health insurance plans;
cost of health and dental insurance is shared by the employee and the
University. Life insurance and long-term disability insurance paid for
by the University. Librarians with the rank of Librarian III, IV or V
are eligible to apply for up to six months of paid research leave.

THE LIBRARY: The Brown University Library, a member of the Research
Libraries Group, Inc., consists of six separate libraries and contains
2,446,757 volumes. The Library and its 76 professionals and 106 FTE
support staff serve 5,585 undergraduates and 1,500 graduate students.
