Painting simulation

There is a new Macintosh Painting program called Painter (Fractal
Design, 101 Madeline Dr Suite 204, Aptos, CA 95003 (408) 688-8800; $299)
which simulates the effect of different artist's materials rather
convincingly: the review in MacUser of February 92 says in part:

...designed specifically for replicating natural drawing and
painting media, a difficult task at which it excels. Its unique
effects make it the ultimate companion product for such programs as
Photoshop or ColorStudio....simulating natural media is one of the
hardest challenges for graphics software. Until Painter, no other
Mac program has been able to accurately reproduce natural brush
dynamics and expression.....airbrushes, crayons, felt pens, chalk,
charcoal, and pencils...water-drop tool (for softening edges and
smearing paint)..2 standard painter effects based on the styles of
    Seurat and Van Gogh..

sounds way cool!
