Recycling CD-roms

While at a conference last week, I was asked if CD ROM's can be recycled
in the sense of recycled paper.  One vender did not know, and another
said no, they sit in a warehouse for hundreds of years.

Anyone know what happens to all those discs we send back to their maker?
