Effect of light pens on microfilm

Cornell U. Library is barcoding its microfilm boxes and we are wondering
if any one has information on the effect of light pens on the microfilm
itself.  The light pens use infrared and are used to read barcode
labels on the boxes.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.
