Barcode specifications

This is a response to Jan Merrill-Oldham's questions about
specifications for barcodes.  I have recently talked with Robert
Futernick, Head of Conservation for the San Francisco Museums of Fine
Arts, who was involved in specifying barcodes for use on the print
collection at the Palace of the Legion of Honor--the barcodes are put on
the back of the mats.  He may have some information about what sorts of
details they looked for in barcodes and how they specified it.  Our
conversation indicated they were particularly interested in the
adhesive. Buena suerte.
