The Archives Association of British Columbia promotes and advances the
acquisition, preservation and use of archival material in the province
of British Columbia.  A current objective of the Association is the
provision of archival preventive conservation services to its
membership.  This conservation service, the British Columbia Archives
Conservation Service, is managed by the Association.

Reporting to the Conservation Committee of the Archives Association of
British Columbia, the successful candidate will be responsible for
developing and administering a province-wide conservation program for
member archival institutions.  The Conservation Co-ordinator visits
member archival institutions to conduct facility and/or collections
surveys, provides advice to membership on conservation matters, devises
and co-ordinates joint projects among member institutions, and is
otherwise responsible for the general administration of the program,
performing related duties as required.

The incumbent must possess strong interpersonal and organizational
skills, effective oral and written communication skills, and the ability
to work independently.  The position is based in the Greater Vancouver
area. Considerable travel and initiative will be required of the
incumbent, particularly in the early stages of the program's
implementation.  In addition, a valid class 5 driver's licence and a
vehicle are required.

This is a one year, full-time contract position with the possibility of
renewal based on the three year CCA Conservation Grant Program.

Qualified applicants will hold a Master's Degree in Conservation with a
minimum of two years conservation experience or an equivalent
combination of training and experience.

Starting date: May 1, 1992 or sooner.
Salary range: $38,000 to $45,000
