Labelling disks

We've received our first interactive disk with accompanying 3 1/2"
disks.  Before we plunge in and do something which we could regret later,
I'd like to know how others are labelling these disks, and probably CD's
also.  Are there labels that have adhesive that can damage these?  What
about inks or other writing utensils?  Other than keeping them in the
original sleeve, are there other shelving or packaging considerations we
need to observe? Thanks.
