The following is forwarded from conservation information network Posted: Wed Feb 22, 1989 6:19 AM PST From: CIN.NDCC TO: cin.network Subject: NEDCC Survey Workshop NEDCC would like broader geographic representation of participants for a workshop on general surveys, and encourages applications from conservators in any specialty in regions outside the Northeast. The workshop will be held in Salem, Massachusetts, May 1-5 (1989), and will include a survey of the Essex Institute, a historical museum. The workshop will provide a model for one- to two-day surveys for long-term preservation planning. Athough paper-based materials will be the focus of the course, the information will be transferable to the needs of most collections. The agenda includes: (1) Review of general conservation assessment and museum concerns, information gathering, influencing change; (2) Review of environmental concerns, hazards assessment, disaster planning, setting priorities, solving problems; (3) Intensive review of climate control and building issues; (4) Survey of host museum; (5) Discussion, report-writing skills, course evaluation. The workshop fee is $90. Participants will be responsible for their own travel and l and lodging costs.
