    Subject:   NEDCC Survey Workshop

    NEDCC would like broader geographic representation of participants
    for a workshop on general surveys, and encourages applications from
    conservators in any specialty in regions outside the Northeast. The
    workshop will be held in Salem, Massachusetts, May 1-5 (1989), and
    will include a survey of the Essex Institute, a historical museum.

    The workshop will provide a model for one- to two-day surveys for
    long-term preservation planning. Athough paper-based materials will
    be the focus of the course, the information will be transferable to
    the needs of most collections.

    The agenda includes: (1) Review of general conservation assessment
    and museum concerns, information gathering, influencing change; (2)
    Review of environmental concerns, hazards assessment, disaster
    planning, setting priorities, solving problems; (3) Intensive review
    of climate control and building issues; (4) Survey of host museum;
    (5) Discussion, report-writing skills, course evaluation.

    The workshop fee is $90. Participants will be responsible for their
    own travel and l and lodging costs. Please call Karen Motylewski
    (508-470-1010) for further information.
