Image enhancement for papyri

MICRO EXPERT SYSTEMS of Chatsworth, California has announced a software
product to assist scholars in reading papyrus documents that have been
erased or written over several times.  The announcement we saw was less
than clear on how this will be accomplisthed, but it seems to be some
sort of digitized analysis of the papyrus which permits software to
distinguish various layers of writing.  Estimated price is $10,000, but
we were unable to figure out if this includes the digitizing hardware or
not.
